Job Interview Report Card: Edge Interactive Publishing
I'll be honest with you... the interview process of job hunting is difficult for me, simply because my interview skills aren't as strong as i would like them to be. Therefore i've decided to start evaluating my job interviews to remind myself of mistakes, weaknesses, and bad habits. Hopefully, this can help me secure good co-op jobs in the future and make me a lot of money!
At the moment, i'm seeking a temporary part time job to accompany my Skydome job and my co-op job @ Assure. This is an interview i had today with a company that publishes books and CDs on Canadian universities.
Organization: Edge Interactive Publishing
Date: Nov. 23rd, 2004
Location: office on Pharmacy Ave. in North York
Type of job: Telephone Sales
Comments:
- Could have explained my background better when asked about my co-op job, previous sales experience, and the UW Math program. (more enthusiasm too?)
- Made my co-op position sound evil by saying i sell to friends and don't feel bad about it, but this can also mean i'm strong on my words.
- Should have explained the nature of insurance in more detail, as if i were trying to sell to her.
- Made ok eye contact but doze off into space occasionally.
- Played with business card.
- Little knowledge of company.
- Confident and calm, but too serious?
- The "goodbye" was poor - need to refer more by names, make better eye contact, and say more than "take it easy". Should not be as hesitant to shake hands. Shook Kathleen's hand but not Sheila's!
Rating out of 10: 6
Conclusion:
Likely to get the job, but only because they seem desperate for a sales rep. Appears i'm the only person who has applied for the job.
